Ladakh is a spectacular and little visited land of Buddhism located in the far north of India. Often described as 'Little Tibet', Ladakh is an arid and spectacular high altitude region of monks and monasteries, fluttering prayer flags, bazaars and festivals. Situated between two of the world's highest mountain ranges - the Karakoram and the Himalayas - witness some of the most breathtaking natural scenery, crossing desolate plains, gorges, valleys and mountain passes. The lunar landscapes of Ladakh offer superb trekking opportunities amongst remote villages and snow capped mountains. We camp by ancient Ladakhi villages, meet local people and visit isolated Buddhist monasteries in the mountains.
Day 1 Arrive Delhi. Meet at airport and transfer to the hotel. Overnight in Delhi
Day 2 Flight to Leh Up very early for an incredible flight to Leh, passing over the Indian Himalayas. We land in the capital of Ladakh at one of the world's highest airports.
Day 3 After a morning spent climbing up to the Royal Palace, the day is free for you to explore Leh's bazaars. Wander along the ancient streets while acclimatising to the high altitude.
Day 4 Visit the 16th century Phyang Gompa, then observe the ways of traditional Ladakhi life in the village of Umla. We overnight in this small but beautiful village.
Day 5 The trek follows an old horse traders' route along the Indus Valley, stopping in at remote monasteries and villages far removed from the present day. We have mountain passes to cross today, granting us outstanding views of the surrounding ranges.
Day 6 Walk through desert scrub to reach the village of Liker, which possesses the 'Water Spirit' Gompa, the first in Ladakh to be built by Tibetan monks.
Day 7 Tramp into an arid moonscape of giant boulders until we arrive at the green oasis of Sumdo village. Up and over the 3650m Charatse La brings us to Yangthang.
Day 8 Head down a narrow river valley to the Julichen Nunnery and stunning views over the Zanskar mountains. Visit the Rizong Monastery before retracing our steps back to our new 'home'.
Day 9 Our trail zigzags up the formidable Sarmanchen pass (3750m). We catch our breath in the thinner air while taking in this immense landscape before reaching the village oasis of Hemis Shukpachan.
Day 10 Start today by crossing Lago La Pass at 3750m, viewing magnificent vistas of the southern Indus Valley. Then head down to the village of Ang before continuing to our night stop of Temisgang.
Day 11 Our final day trekking takes us over Bong Bong La Pass before we descend into the valley that connects with the road to Khalsi. We celebrate finishing our trek tonight back in Leh.
Day 12 At leisure in Leh A last chance to explore some of the city's fascinating shops, cafes and bazaars. Perhaps visit the Polo Ground if there's a match, or just wander the labyrinth of streets.
Day 13 return to Delhi Early morning flight back to Delhi. An opportunity to explore Old Delhi, including the Red Fort, before leaving India and making our way back home.
Day 14 Take a flight back home

Accomodation Hotels, guesthouse, teahouses & camping. Obviously the standard of hotels and guesthouses will vary greatly and the more remote the location the more basic the accommodation becomes, this is all part of your challenge! Teahouse accommodation can best be described as rustic, you will usually have a small room, a bed and some blankets/ pillow. Some but not all have a shower of sorts, though access to hot water is limited. On some days you will just have a bowl of hot water to wash with. We ask for your patience, as at times things do not work the way you are used to at home. Transport: Bus and internal flight
